Good afternoon, RJ Grey Families:

I hope you're doing well. I have several different messages today, so please be sure to read below!

Interrupting Hate and Bias
Today, I had the pleasure of leading four assemblies with each 7th grade team on the theme of Interrupting Hate and Bias. This has become an annual, and intentionally proactive training for students. The goal is to have students understand how they can help to Interrupt, Question, Educate, or Echo when they see or hear hateful or biased messages here at school, online, or in other settings. The students had the chance to interact with me verbally and through their Chromebooks. Please ask your 7th grader about the assembly for their main takeaways. Here is a link to the slides we used today. Since our 8th graders had this same assembly last year, their assembly coming up on October 24th will take a deeper dive into other elements that we've seen over the years. I'll share those slides when we get closer to that date.

Minuteman High School Applications
Representatives from Minuteman High School spoke to 8th graders on September 29th about attending Minuteman as one option for high school. Applications to apply to Minuteman are now open on the Minuteman website: Home - Minuteman High School. There is an upcoming field trip to Minuteman for interested students on November 7. Students need to sign up by October 31.  Representatives from ABRHS will speak to students on October 22nd. While our feet are just barely under us this year, we do help students and families start to think ahead about high school. Please be in touch with your child's counselor if you have questions about this process.

Daily Announcements Emails
We currently have 666 email addresses in our Daily Announcements group. If you're one of these members, you know what you receive on a daily basis. If you aren't part of this group, I encourage at least one adult in each family to sign up for the group. The messages include the announcements that we read to students every morning. It also includes any messages that are updated throughout the day, including changes to sports schedules and locations, as well as changes to after-school clubs, activities, etc. I am very aware that families receive many messages throughout the day from our teachers, our school, and the District. We do try to minimize the number of messages you receive to only come through this Eye on the Junior High series and our Daily Announcements as much as possible. Please click here if you're interested in joining the group. You do need to sign in through your Parent Square account to be included in the group.

AB Forward
I hope you have seen some of the messages from the Central Office about the AB Forward Steering Committee and our work with District Management Group. DMG has provided nine options for the potential reorganization of our District. I encourage every parent and guardian to take a look at what is being talked about. You can view more information on the AB Forward website. The District will share a community feedback survey next week. Additionally, there are several opportunities to provide feedback through community meetings: October 21 at 6:30 in the ABRHS Auditorium, October 27 at 6:30 in the Blanchard School Gymnasium, and on October 30 in a virtual setting (link shared later). Even if your youngest child is in RJ Grey and you don't think this will affect you, I ask you to provide feedback based on your experience as a parent in our District.

RJ Grey Online Store
RJ Grey has not had much of our own clothing or gear over the years, and we're hoping to change that a bit. We are working with a local vendor and have set up an online store for students, families, and staff to browse and purchase some RJ Grey swag. Our store will be active through October 24, and items will be delivered to the school. Please take a look and place an order for something, if you'd like!

In case you're curious, the heat is being turned on at RJ Grey this week. Our nice stretch of extended summer weather seems to be coming to an end. I hope you enjoy the cooler temperatures over this long weekend!

Take care,
Jim
