Good afternoon, RJ Grey Families:
I hope you're doing well. This will be my final Eye on the Junior High for November, as next Thursday is Thanksgiving. The tradition in my family has been that we get to see my family for dinner, followed by my wife's extended family for dessert. Of the upcoming holidays, this one happens to be my favorite. Good food, no gift-giving, and no hosting at my home all make for it to be a pretty chill day! I hope that, however you celebrate Thanksgiving next week, it gives you the chance to connect with family and friends.
As the principal of RJ Grey, I have the privilege of addressing our students at the start of our Thanksgiving assemblies next Wednesday. While I don't have my remarks quite prepared yet, I always find a way to express how much I appreciate our students and staff. While I'm writing to you, our family audience, I also want to take the opportunity to express my thanks for the support that you give to me and our school on a regular basis. You send us your really great children every day. They are kind, care for others, take learning seriously, and join us in our efforts to build a joyful, inclusive community. I continue to be proud of the work that we do here at RJ Grey, and the support from your families plays a major role in our success.
Starting with yesterday morning's daily announcements, I have reminded students about the expectations and responsibilities that come with staying after school. I reminded them that the only reasons to stay after the bell at 2:36 are for clubs, activities, sports, and extra help. We keep the library open after school to allow students to wait for a ride after one of these activities. On Tuesday afternoon, with a jam-packed library and more students wandering back into school with Starbucks beverages, I realized it would be helpful to be super clear again with students about our expectations for behavior. While addressing the students as a group is important to lay a base of common understanding, we will start to reach out to individual families if we find students who are in our building unnecessarily. Additionally, when students leave school to walk through town, go to Starbucks, or Santa Fe, or for any other reason, they are not permitted back into the building. Given our limited supervision in the building after hours, only students who stay in the building for specific activities can utilize the library's warmth to wait for the late bus or a ride in your vehicle. I appreciate your help in reinforcing this with your children.
Our school musical, Seussical, Jr., will open its shows in December. If you're able to join us on December 4, 5, or 6 at 7 pm or Sunday, December 7 at 2 pm, you'll be in for a treat. Our musical tryouts took place in the early fall. Since then, our actors, singers, dancers, and crew members, along with the adult musicians, directors, and choreographers, have been putting the final touches on what will be a great show. If your child is planning to apply to a private school for next year, the first step is for a parent or guardian to complete this form at least 20 days before the school application is due. Most applications are due January 15th, which means the due date for our form and the other required steps is December 4th. Please visit the Counseling Office's webpage for more information, as there are quite a few steps and important details.
