Good afternoon, RJ Grey Families:

I hope all is well and that your child is picking up on the routines of being a student at RJ Grey. With 15 days of school behind us, now is when we start to look out for students who are still struggling with the adjustment to a new grade or school. If your child is showing signs of needing some extra attention regarding adjusting to this year, I invite you to be in touch with their school counselor or team teachers. Knowing what you might be seeing at home is an important first step in knowing how we can best support your child.

If you have frequented our school website in the past few days, it may look different to you. The District and individual school pages have been updated with a new look and feel. We are still in the process of making sure that all of the necessary info is on the new site. If you find anything missing that could or should be there, please let me know.  Thank you for your patience.

School Picture Day
Tomorrow (Friday, 9/19) is School Picture Day at RJ Grey. All students will have their pictures taken by the photographers. We use the pictures so that we can always identify our students by face. Families may choose to order prints of this picture, though that is not a requirement. Please click here to order prints from Mark Lawrence. Following picture day, Mark Lawrence Photographers will email families a link to view and order their child's picture.  This year, ordering is being done through Mark Lawrence Photography online. We do have some hard copy forms in our Main Office if you prefer that option.

Library Card Signup Month
On Thursday, September 25th, librarians from Acton Memorial Library and Sargent Memorial Library (Boxborough) will visit student lunches to celebrate Library Card Signup Month. Acton Memorial Library card forms have been made available in Google Classroom and the school library. If your student is signing up for an Acton library card and is under the age of 13, they will need a parent's signature on their form. Students 13 years or older do not need a signature from an adult. Students who want to sign up for a Sargent library card will receive a bookmark with instructions on how to do so.

Back to School Night Reminder
You are invited to RJ Grey's Back to School Night on Thursday, September 25. The event starts at 6:45 pm and ends by 8:30. I encourage you to plan ahead and time your commute well, as our nearby parking lots fill up quickly. You are free to park in any of the spots at RJ Grey, the Parker-Damon Building, and the High School.

You will follow your child's Day 1 schedule, and you'll be able to spend 10 minutes in each of your child's classes. This adults-only event is a good opportunity to see your child's teachers, put a face to a name, and know more about what your child will learn this year. Our Back to School Night provides general information about your child's courses and does not include time for individual conversations about your own student. Your child will bring home their specially-created schedule after Monday, September 22. We will also have hard copies of student schedules in the lobby that evening. I hope to see many of you on September 25!

Activity Fee Reminder
If your child is joining one of our clubs, we now have a $50 Activity Fee that helps support the costs of running our extracurricular programs. If your child has already joined a club, you can send a check for $50 (made out to Acton-Boxborough Regional School District) that they can drop off at the Main Office. You can also pay online here. If your family is in need of financial assistance, please submit a request for financial assistance according to the instructions on our District's website.

Take care,
Jim
