Good afternoon, RJ Grey Families:

School pictures started to go home yesterday, and others today, along with student ID cards. If you haven't yet received the prints you've ordered, check in with your student to see if they're in their backpack. Otherwise, being in touch with Mark Lawrence photographers is a good next step. If your student is going to do a retake, or have their picture taken for the first time, we'll do picture retakes next Friday, October 24. Yesterday, lots of students asked me what their student ID was used for. One student hoped he'd be able to swipe it to enter the building! The student IDs are produced by the picture company and have a student's name and student ID number, but they have no real purpose within our school. I told students to keep them handy in case they ever encounter a store that offers a student discount!

I hosted our first School Council meeting of the year last night. We welcomed Patsy Bandes as a new 7th grade representative. She joined Erica Brown Soto, Kate Elliot Mayers, Krishan Kumar, and Kat Contini on the council. Earlier this year, I asked for any interested 7th grade parents/guardians to let me know about their interest on the council. We do have capacity for another rep, so please be in touch with me if you'd like to be a standing member of the School Council. I use this group as an advisory body to help as I make decisions. It's a helpful group for me to hear about what your kids are saying about school. We usually end each meeting with a few questions: "What's going well?" And, "What could be better?" You can read more about the School Council on our website

RJ Grey has not had much of our own clothing or gear over the years, and we're hoping to change that a bit. We are working with a local vendor and have set up an online store for students, families, and staff to browse and purchase some RJ Grey swag. Our store will be active through October 24, and items will be delivered to the school. Please take a look and place an order for something, if you'd like!

Take care,
Jim
