Good afternoon, RJ Grey Families:

Happy New Year! I hope the first few days of 2026 have been good to you and your families. My family enjoyed our recent vacation by mostly staying home, seeing family and friends, and eating too many desserts! My kids' favorite gifts from Christmas were rollerblades. They spent several days trying out their new skates throughout our house and then on our street. At the end of the week, several families met up at Roller Kingdom to give them a chance to try them out on a better surface! I haven't been in a roller skating rink since the mid-1990s, and I have to say - not much has changed. They thought the whole experience was awesome, as did I! All in all, it was a great week, and I hope your own experiences were similar or better!

Our students will complete their second round of iReady assessments over the next few weeks. These assessments help us to know that students are making progress in reading and math. Students will complete the Reading iReady next Tuesday, January 13. They'll complete the math assessment on the following Tuesday, January 20. The end of Semester 1 and Quarter 2 courses is approaching. Our exploratory classes, PE/Health classes, and Grey Block classes will wrap up on January 22. New courses will begin on January 23rd. Grades from these classes will be reported on our next report card, which is issued in March at the conclusion of Trimester 2, which is the schedule for our on-team classes.

Aside from these academic milestones, we have several performing arts events on the horizon. We'll have winter concerts for Band (Jan 14), Chorus (Jan 27), and Orchestra (Feb 10). On Friday, January 19, our Student Council will host their annual Summer Fun in Winter volleyball tournament after school. We also have our traditional Hawaiian shirt day on the 19th as a way to break up the winter cold!

That's it for now - I hope you have a nice weekend,

Jim
