Good afternoon, RJ Grey Families:
I hope you are doing well. Last night, we hosted about 250 individuals for our annual 6th Grade Info Night. I always appreciate that parents take time out of their busy schedules to come to school for important events like this. The energy was high, and the vibe was positive in the moments after the presentation when we fielded questions from parents. I am entering the phase of life where my own oldest child is going to be entering 7th grade, so I felt a certain kinship with the audience last night! If you have friends or neighbors whose children will be joining us next year, I hope you speak positively about the experience that your kids have had while at our school.
Next week is the national Teacher Appreciation Week. As an administrator, both at RJ Grey and at the high school, I have always appreciated our teachers at AB. This year, as I've spent some time subbing as a Spanish teacher, I recognize more deeply the joy and challenge of being a teacher in 2026. Our educators spend long hours thinking about their lessons, their students, their communications with you as parents, among a million other school-related topics. And they do all of that while balancing the needs of their own children, partners, family, and friends. I continue to be thankful for the work that our educators put in on a daily basis. If you have a moment and wish to express your appreciation to one or more of your child's teachers, I know they will appreciate it.
Next Friday, May 8, is our 7th grade End of Year Celebration. This event, replete with music, snacks, and fun, takes place in our gym. Most students dress up a bit more than they do for a day of school. This RJ Grey student-only event is always a good time, and if your child hasn't mentioned it yet, ask them if they plan to attend. Tickets are on sale for $10 in homeroom through next Thursday. We don't sell tickets on the day of the celebration so that we have a good handle on who's planning to attend. The event ends promptly at 9 pm, so I thank you for knowing that in advance and not relying on your child texting when they're ready to be picked up!
Thanks to all of you who sent your children to school with bags of cans and bottles over the past few weeks. Our innovative Green Team club ran a bottle and can drive. Our school collected over 6000 cans and bottles, with 7 Blue being the winning team with 1573 items collected! I appreciate the Green Team's efforts to get this new competition off the ground, and I thank everyone who helped make it a success.
We are approaching our next round of MCAS testing. Next week, we'll give the Math tests on both Thursday and Friday. Thank you in advance for helping your child remember to charge their Chromebook overnight. And having plenty of rest and something to eat in the morning will help them show their best work on the tests.
I hope you have a nice weekend!
