Good afternoon, RJ Grey Families:

I hope you all had a nice Memorial Day weekend despite the rainy weather. My wife and I had the chance to see Bruce Springsteen on Sunday night at the TD Garden. He and his band put on a full show for almost three hours. As a 44-year-old, I know that I couldn't perform in front of a sellout crowd for that long (for several reasons, including not having a talent)! But never mind that he's 76 years old! Watching him perform made me wonder about a few things. Firstly, who among our students will be the next major performer who will take the world by storm with their talent? I have seen many of our kids sing, act, run, and show all their talents over the years. I know many of them will end up on the world's stage very soon! And secondly, I'm always curious to know who or what inspired these great musicians, performers, athletes, and others to keep going when they were younger? Our role as educators and your role as parents are important ones. We get to help our kids foster their passions and help them make plans for the future. Quite a daunting but exciting role to play!

With about 19 days of school left, we are in the homestretch. Our last day of school is Thursday, June 25th, with an early dismissal at 11:10 that day. The other days that week are full days with typical dismissal at 2:36 pm. If you know that your child won't be in school through the final day of school, please write to the Main Office to let us know. Your child should make sure their teachers are aware, as well. Please make sure that they've turned in library books and classroom texts, along with their Chromebook and charger, before leaving on their last day.

Tomorrow night is our 8th Grade Celebration! The event starts at 7 pm and ends promptly at 9 pm. Thank you for making sure your child has a clear plan for how they're getting home immediately at 9 pm. I stay until the last student is picked up, so help spare them the embarrassment of hanging with me until a ride comes! If you are dropping off your child tomorrow, they will enter through the door at the top of the stairs, nearest our cafeteria. Thank you in advance to the parents who are responsible for decorating and making our cafe a very special place. And to the parents who are donating food and drink - your students will really appreciate it!

I hope you have a great weekend!

Jim
