Good afternoon, RJ Grey Families:
I hope you are doing well as we close in on the end of our first 5-day week. Our students are all falling into good routines and patterns about school attendance, navigating our building, and balancing the demands of being 7th and 8th graders. Thank you for your support of them at home! If your child is still struggling with creating strong routines, or isn't yet feeling great about the transition back to school, I invite you to be in touch with your child's school counselor or a teacher to share your concerns. We always hope that our students enjoy coming to school - let us know if what you see at home could use some additional support.
This week, we had two successful safety drills: our first fire drill of the year, followed by our evacuation drill. In both of these important drills, our students did a nice job of following the expectations of their teachers.
Student Activity Fee Collection Our Daily Announcements have been full of messages about the first meetings of many of our clubs. If your child is joining one of our clubs, we collect a $50 Activity Fee that helps support the costs of running our extracurricular programs. If your child has already joined a club and plans to continue with it, you can send a check for $50 (made out to Acton-Boxborough Regional School District) that they can drop off at the Main Office. You can also pay online here. If your family is in need of financial assistance, please submit a request for financial assistance according to the instructions on our District's website.
School Picture Day - Tuesday, September 29 Mark Lawrence Photographers will be at RJ Grey on Tuesday, September 29th to take photos of each student and staff member. Mark Lawrence Photographers has reached out to families by email and text message with info about ordering picture packages. If you have not received that message, which contains info about ordering, please call the company directly. Each text and email has an individualized code for your child. Even if families don't choose to purchase pictures, all students have their picture taken to be included in our yearbook!
Back to School Night Reminder You are invited to RJ Grey's Back to School Night on Thursday, October 8. The event starts at 6:45 pm and ends by 8:30. I encourage you to plan ahead and time your commute well, as our nearby parking lots fill up quickly. You are free to park in any of the spots at RJ Grey, the Parker Damon Building, or the High School.
You will follow your child's Day 1 schedule, and you'll be able to spend 10 minutes in each of your child's classes. This adults-only event is a good opportunity to see your child's teachers, put a face to a name, and know more about what your child will learn this year. Our Back to School Night provides general information about your child's courses and does not include time for individual conversations about your own student. Your child will bring home their specially created schedule before October 8. We will also have hard copies of student schedules in the lobby that evening. I hope to see many of you on October 8!
RJ Grey School Store Last year, we started working with a local vendor to create some RJ Grey swag to help boost our school spirit. If you are interested, please take a look at our online store; items are available for purchase through September 25th, and purchases will be delivered to RJ Grey in October.
I hope you have a good weekend, Jim
