Good afternoon, RJ Grey Families:

I hope you are doing well. The joy of this week has been temperatures climbing into the 30s! While it is still quite cold when I direct morning traffic, it has been far more manageable this week. I hope you've been enjoying it too, before another arctic blast this weekend.

In advance of the opening ceremonies for the Olympic Games this weekend, I just finished watching the Netflix documentary, Miracle: The Boys of '80. If you're looking for something to check out, I encourage you to give it a try. While I'm not someone who typically gravitates towards hockey, I needed something to pass the time over a few sessions on the treadmill over the last week. The story is about the 1980 Olympic Hockey Team at the Olympic Games in Lake Placid. If you've seen the 2004 film, Miracle, you know the story. For me, the great part of this documentary was seeing the players react as they watched old footage from their games. I also loved the moments when the filmmakers showed the "watch parties" that were happening at players' homes. The nostalgia of seeing wall-to-wall carpeting, paneled walls, small TV sets, and some thick Boston accents really did it for me! I recommend that you check it out if you're interested!

We are wrapping up our SOS lessons in 7th grade this week. By chance, our work on this topic always falls around the National School Counselor Week. I am always grateful for the work of our four school counselors and three school psychologists. They are integral members of our staff who help to make sure that students' social and emotional needs are met so they can do their best work in their classes. If you have reason to thank a counselor this year, I'm sure they would appreciate a brief message of thanks!

Next Wednesday, February 11th, from 6 - 7:30 pm, Acton-Boxborough Regional High School is hosting its annual Transition to ABRHS Night for parents and caregivers of current 8th graders. The high school Leadership Team and students will talk about life at the high school. Please mark your calendars for this important event.

I hope you have a good weekend, and Go Pats!

Jim
