Good afternoon, RJ Grey Families:
|
I hope you are doing well. There's a lot of "love in the air" at RJ Grey this week. We currently have two displays in our cafeteria areas that feel appropriate for this month, which includes Valentine's Day. Last year, we started a tradition where we display a heart with each student's name on it in our cafeteria. These hearts were created by students in Advisory last week. In my Advisory, for example, I displayed the first and last names of students in our buddy Advisory, and my students created hearts with their names and other decorations. The joy of this week has been watching students and staff search the walls of the cafeteria for their own names among the nearly 900 hearts on display. We find that it's particularly meaningful to know that someone thought of you, wrote your name, and shared it on the wall. Being considered and cared for matters deeply to us at RJ Grey, and this little project is a nice visual display of that effort.

Separately, on display in our Cafe Annex are stanzas that students wrote about love. Mr. Malloy, our English teacher on 7 and 8 Green, asked students to write a brief stanza on what love means. This has been another nice addition to our hallways. Many students and staff have stopped by over the week to take a look at how our students define love.
You likely saw an email about placing a Tribute to your 8th grader in our yearbook. If you're interested in this, here are the necessary details should you wish to participate:
- For $40, you will receive a 1/8th-page space in our yearbook, which is room for 1-2 photos and a message of pride and congratulations to your child.
You will design, pay, and submit everything online. We have to submit these pages for printing as they are completed, so please be sure to proof your file very carefully. Unfortunately, changes aren't possible after it is submitted.
To begin, and scroll down to find the button that says "Start Your Ad":
We will keep the portal open until all the pages allocated to tributes have been filled. If you have any questions, please contact our yearbook coordinator, Marc Lewis, at MLewis@abschools.org.

We are getting closer to spring, which means spring sports will start up at the end of March. We offer Baseball, Softball, Girls Volleyball, and Spring Track. Our list of tryouts and practices is posted on our website. Please note that any student interested in trying out for a sport needs to have a recent physical on file in our Health Office, and families must complete Family ID information before tryouts. If you have any questions, please be in touch with Jon Duclos (jduclos@abschools.org), our JH Athletic Director.
Tomorrow is our annual Blue and Gold Day celebration. If your child leaves the house in atypical attire and they’re dressed in combinations of our two school colors, they’ll be in good company. Each grade level will have an assembly during the afternoon with performances by our band, chorus, and orchestra. We'll also have an exciting Musical Chairs competition for student volunteers. This assembly is one of the few times we gather as a whole grade, and it’s something I always look forward to.
I hope you have a nice weekend and an enjoyable February vacation week!
Jim
