Good afternoon, RJ Grey Families:

I hope you are doing well. If your child needs to have their school picture taken for the first time, or if they need a retake, tomorrow is the day! We'll call students who need a picture taken (by team) throughout the morning. If this is the first picture of the year for your child, you can log into Mark Lawrence Photographers to order prints. If your child is getting a retake, they need to bring the picture package that you're not keeping to the photographer.

I was able to attend the first community forum on Tuesday night, where the options for District reorganization were discussed. The brief presentation was followed by a good number of questions and comments from community members. I was impressed by the thoughtful and specific questions that were asked, along with the insightful comments. Peter Light, Tori Campbell, and the reps from DMG provided complete and thoughtful answers. If you have time and are interested in being in the same space as others who are taking in all of this information, please plan to attend one of the upcoming community meetings. The next in-person meeting is Monday, Oct 27, from 6:30 - 8:00 pm at the Blanchard School gym, followed by a virtual meeting on Thursday, Oct 30, from 6:30 - 8:00 pm.

All Acton-Boxborough residents, educators, families, and students are invited to take our reorganization survey.  Before completing the survey, it is recommended that you review the organizational materials on the AB Forward webpage. The survey (link here) will be available until November 9th.

We are just about wrapping up all of our fall sports seasons. If your child participated in a fall sport, I hope they've had a good experience as a member of an RJ Grey team. Registration for winter sports tryouts opens up tomorrow (Oct 24) and runs through November 16. The winter sports tryouts will take place after Thanksgiving. Please be sure that you've reviewed the process for signing up on our Athletics website. Each participant needs to have a current physical exam on file in the Health office, and each participant needs to be signed up through Family ID in order to try out.

Separately, we have coaches for our basketball teams lined up, but we are actively recruiting a coach for our Cheer team. If you know someone who would be interested in this, please have them be in touch with our RJ Grey Athletic Director, Jon Duclos (jduclos@abschools.org). The program may not run if we don't have an adult coach for this team.

Our 8th graders got to hear from representatives from Acton-Boxborough Regional High School yesterday. Students heard about the core classes they'll take, the wide variety of electives available, along with the many clubs, activities, athletics, and other available resources at ABRHS. As you know, students have the chance to learn more about Minuteman High School by attending Showcase Day on November 7. The deadline to sign up for the field trip is next Friday, October 31. If your family is considering private school as a ninth grade option, please check out our Counseling website to better understand the process. Our counseling team is an integral part of all private school applications.

Finally, our gear shop is open through tomorrow, October 24. If someone you know is interested in some RJ Grey gear, please check it out! I have a navy blue hoodie coming my way!

Have a good weekend,
Jim
